摘 要： 本文从认知语言学的角度，探讨英语进行体的本质意义;在认知语言学“原型范畴”的理论基础上，试图构建英语进行体的原型图式及其变体，以期更好地认识英语进行体的本质意义和用法。

Abstract： This paper discusses the essential meaning of the English progressive aspect from the views
of the cognitive linguistics; on the theoretical basis of the “prototype category” of the cognitive
linguistics, this paper tries to structure the prototype schema of the English progressive aspect
and its variations, in order to know better the essential meaning of the English progressive aspect
and its usage.

一 现在进行体意义的认知研究
“凡属语言研究，不论是历时还是共时研究，不在乎规范、描写、解释三种。早期的传统语法属规范性的，因为它总结如何正确使用语言的规则。结构主义开始对语言结构进行描写，而转换生成语法注重语言的深层结构和语言能力，本意是想解释语言的生成机制，但后来完全抛开意义研究，走到了形式主义的极端。认知语言学认为语言是认知的一部分，受人们认知世界的方法和规律的制约，要想做到描写的充分性，必须对语言现象做出解释。所以，认知语言学不仅仅对语言事实进行描写，而且致力于朝理论解释的方向迈进一步，揭示语言事实背后的认知规律”。
